About AskGTO
AskGTO is an AI poker coach for reviewing your own hands. You describe a hand by text, voice or screenshot, and it explains the key decisions in plain language, then answers follow-up questions about the same hand. It is built and run by one person, Jianyu Wu.
Why I built AskGTO
I play Texas hold’em, and what keeps me interested is the math behind it: probability, ranges, and the game theory that sits under every decision. I am also a software engineer.
When I tried to review my own hands, the tools I found were hard to use, expensive, or took a long time to learn before they told me anything useful. So I set out to build something simpler: describe a hand the way you would tell a friend, and get an explanation you can actually follow.
What AskGTO is, and what it is not
- A study aid, not a solver. A language-model coach reads the hand street by street and explains the reasoning. It does not compute a solver strategy for your exact spot.
- Math computed in code. Key numbers such as pot odds, MDF and SPR are calculated by code and handed to the coach, instead of being estimated by the language model.
- A conversation about one hand. You can keep asking “why not call?” or “what if the stacks were shorter?” without describing the hand again.
Check what matters
Like any AI system, AskGTO can misread a hand or reach a wrong conclusion. Check that it has restated your hand correctly, and verify important decisions with a solver, an equity calculator or a qualified coach. The beginner’s hand review guide explains what each kind of tool can and cannot tell you, and the live poker hand review tutorial shows the whole process on one hand from a live game.
